All about screening
Why is screening important?
Since prostate cancer often develops “silently” in most cases, a man can live with this disease without suspecting anything until it is detected by chance through screening; we are not talking here about latent cancers that will never be detected, but about those that are clinically significant and eventually diagnosed and treated.
Ideally, a comprehensive screening should include a blood test combined with a digital rectal exam. If one of these two screening tools had to be prioritized, the blood test would be at the top of the list.
This section provides information on the initial screening tests that your family doctor will perform to determine if you need to see a specialist, as well as the main tests that your urologist will perform to establish a diagnosis, including the PSA test and the significance of its level.
