Travel operation: Be ready!

You would like to go on vacation, but your incontinence makes you hesitate? Here are some tips for a carefree getaway!

Ah, summer! Synonym of holidays and getaways, you want to enjoy it just like everyone else. Yet, there you are, suffering from incontinence after prostate cancer, and you are afraid that it might spoil your holidays. Fortunately, with the right preparation, you can easily overcome this, and enjoy your summer even more.

Planning Is the Key

No matter where you are going and how, plan your trips and visits by taking in account that your bladder is not what it used to be anymore. Thus, in the car, plan regular stops to relieve your bladder, even if you don’t feel the need. You should also keep a bag within reach, with your incontinence products and some spare clothing in it.

In the plane, bus or train, do the same with a small hand luggage. Don’t forget to add a sealed plastic bag in it, to keep your soiled products, since some toilet cubicle don’t have any trash bin to dispose of these products. In this way, you will be able to dispose of them later. Also, in these means of transportation, you should prefer an aisle seat, and as near as possible from the restroom. This will allow you to go there easily and as often as you need it.

Keep Your Healthy Habits

Prostate cancer consequences might have cause new habits in your life. Your holidays are a good moment to keep them going, even if it’s not easy! In fact, these habits have positive effects on your overall health and your incontinence. Thus, keeping them at any time will help you to manage better the disadvantages.

In this way, you should drink enough water all day long. This will reduce the risks of constipation and bladder issues. Of course, you still need to go to the toilet regularly (even when you are waiting in a long queue!) to eliminate the liquids.

The ideal is to keep your routine, even when you are not at home. By choosing the right foods and exercising daily, you will contribute to your own well-being, and your holidays will probably seem less exhausting when you will be back home.

Find Your Own Tricks

No one knows you better than yourself. It is why you can also look for some tricks that might suit you more or will be more adapted to your holidays. For example, technology lovers can count on their GPS or various smart phone apps to find the nearest public restroom, whether it is a rest area, a convenience store, or a restaurant.

If you survived prostate cancer, you will surely find a way to combine incontinence and holidays without too much difficulties!
