Rediscovering Well-being After Treatments

 

After completing treatments, people often feel a mix of concern and relief. The main focus during this transition is rediscovering well-being. If you’ve undergone prostate cancer treatment, you’ve likely faced intense moments of fear and challenging emotions.

It’s normal to fear a recurrence and worry about your overall health.

Certain times of the year may bring higher levels of anxiety, like the anniversary of the diagnosis or when waiting for test results. By participating in both familiar and new activities and visualizing positive outcomes, anxiety associated with the fear of recurrence should decrease over time.

    • Engaging in projects dear to your heart that can help shift your focus is beneficial.
    • Proceeding at your own pace is essential.

This experience is now a part of you, and though you cannot erase it, you have the opportunity to explore new ways to alleviate anxiety and fear, and also to embrace a fresh outlook on the future. Here are some ideas to consider for improving your well-being.

Give yourself the necessary time to promote your well-being.

  1. Adopt a balanced diet: Choose healthy and nutritious foods, including antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, to strengthen your immune system. Plan meals and explore new healthy recipes to make your meals more interesting and delicious
  2. Prioritize great quality sleep: This should be one of your priorities as it plays a crucial role in your recovery and mental well-being. Establish a regular sleep routine by turning off electronic devices before bedtime, ensuring a comfortable room temperature, practicing relaxing rituals like deep breathing, and more.
  3. Engage in enjoyable and relaxing activities: Explore hobbies or activities that bring you pleasure and contribute to your relaxation. Accept help from others, as they want your well-being.

  1. Allow others to support you: This may include help with household chores, shopping, medical appointments, or other aspects of daily life. Clearly communicate the specific assistance you require, including the comfort of having a reassuring presence. Overcome any unease by recognizing that seeking or receiving help doesn’t diminish your inherent value or worth.
